Bill Logan
Founder and Lead Arborist
Bill Logan founded Urban Arborists and has run the company since its beginning. He teaches pruning and tree identification at the New York Botanical Garden's School of Professional Horticulture. At the Garden, he also teaches a master class in tree care to foresters of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. He has lectured at numerous botanical gardens around the country, including the Arnold Arboretum, the Morton Arboretum, and the Huntington Botanical Gardens. He has published four books of natural history - Oak: The Frame of Civilization, Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth, Air: The Restless Shaper of the World and, most recently, Sprout Lands: Tending the Endless Gift of Trees - all from WW Norton. As writer and contributing editor to House & Garden, House Beautiful and Garden Design, and as a garden columnist for the New York Times, he developed a keen sense of what makes a garden beautiful. He visits and/or consults on all Urban Arborists field work. He is a sought-after consultant to landscape architects, municipalities, companies and individuals. He is an ISA certified arborist and a member of the American Society of Consulting Arborists.
Diana Grabon
Managing Arborist
Diana Grabon has long had interest in the workings of plants, animals and people. Her previous experience includes gardening throughout the city and managing large scale forest restoration projects with NYC Parks. Diana holds a BS in Biology, a certificate of Horticulture from Brooklyn Botanic Garden and is an ISA and TRA certified arborist. She is passionate about plant health-care and diagnostics, right plant/right place, native plants and listening to the trees.
Olivia Goldberg
Arborist
Olivia joined Urban Arborists in 2024. She is a graduate of the New York Botanical Garden’s School of Professional Horticulture and an ISA certified arborist. She has prior work experience in both public and private horticulture, and is most passionate about restoring and protecting green spaces for public enjoyment as well as environmental conservation.
Beth Duerr
Operations Manager
Beth Duerr has been the Operations Manager at Urban Arborists since 2008. She wears many hats at Urban Arborists but mostly she handles logistics involving non-planting projects. She holds a deep reverence and appreciation of the beauty of trees and gardens. Beth is also an artist and has an MFA in Painting from Parsons School of Design.
Gem Sorenson
Administrative Office Manager
Gem Sorenson joined the Urban Arborist team in 2024. They have a BA in Environmental Studies and are currently pursuing their certificate of Horticulture from Brooklyn Botanic Garden. As a native New Yorker and urban ecology enthusiast, Gem is pleased to be immersed in the world of NYC tree care and be your first point of contact with Urban Arborists.
Connie Scalice
Bookkeeper
Connie has been with Urban Arborists since January 2014 and enjoys working here as a full charge bookkeeper. She appreciates learning about the importance of trees and what they need from humans.
Our dog
Jessie, company mascot, who maintains morale and gives all trees the sniff test.
